The Latino population in America is expanding at a rapid rate. Currently, Latinos represent more than 11 percent of the total U.S. population, and of that number, about 36 percent are children below the age of 18. Faced with tremendous pressure to assimilate into the American culture, many of these youths experience high rates of school failure, substance abuse, and other social problems.
