Using Advanced Search

Advanced Search provides more sophisticated search options than a Standard Search. You can use Advanced Search to specify where to search for the words (i.e., in the title, subject, or full text of the book or journal article). For information about each Advanced Search option, see Advanced Search Options.

To begin an Advanced Search

  1. Click the Search tab, then click New Search.

  2. Use the Advanced Search portion of the screen.

  3. Enter your search into any or all of the fields. (Title, Author, Subject, Publisher, Content of the entire publication)
      Notes

  4. Make a selection in the drop-down list for how you want your search words to be treated. For example, select any of these words you want to search the library for any of the words in the search box. See Advanced Search Options for more information.

  5. In the Publication Year fields, do one of the following.

  6. Select the media type if you want. (The default setting is to search for all media types.)

  7. Click the Search button below the search form. The results appear on the Search Results page.

Example

Let us assume you are looking for a recently published book that you remember had "women" and "warriors" in the title. In the Title box, type women warriors. Select All the words. In the After box, type 1990. Click Search. A book titled "Women Warriors"published after 1990 is listed on the Search Results page.
