If information on the current page is pertinent to your research paper, you can easily reference it within the body of the research paper. A quote from the page may be included in the reference. Use the Quote and Cite function to create a citation for this page (such as a footnote), either with or without a quote.
To cite a specific page
If you want to include a quote with the page reference, select the desired text with your mouse.
Click the Quote/Cite button. The Create a Citation dialog box appears.
Select the citation style from the drop-down list:
MLA (Modern Language Association)
APA (American Psychological Association)
ASA (American Sociological Association)
Chicago Manual of Style, One
Chicago Manual of Style, Two
Turabian Bibliographic Style
Turabian Reference List Style
The default style is MLA. You can change the default style in Preferences.
Click OK.
Your citation and quotation (if applicable) will appear in a window. This window uses the application your system defaults to for opening RTF (Rich Text Format) documents. If you do not see a window open, or if you see a window that says "Your citation is below" but there is no citation below, check to see if it is hidden behind the Questia window.
If your system does not have a default set for RTF documents, you will be given the option of opening or saving the citation. If you choose to open the citation, use an application that accepts RTF documents (most word processors do accept RTF). If you choose to save your citation, save it with the file name extension .rtf You can then open your citation in any word processing application that accepts .rtf files.
Copy and paste your citation and quotation into your paper, or save it using the file extension appropriate for your word processor (e.g., for Microsoft Word, end your file name with .doc). In most systems, you can save the citation using the Save As function from the File menu.
Your citation acts as a link back to the cited item on the Questia service. If you click on it from your paper, it will open a web browser and attempt to connect to the cited publication. For more information, including how to edit a linked citation, see Linking to Referenced Publications from a Word Processor.
Always verify the accuracy of your citation style.
Notes
The word processor you use must support RTF (Rich Text Format) in order for the formatted citations to appear correctly. Most popular word processors support this.
A citation formatted as a footnote or endnote will be displayed according to the settings on your word processor. In Microsoft Word, footnotes and endnotes are visible on screen in the Print Layout view. To change to this view, select Print Layout from the View menu. For more information, refer to the online Help system in your word processor for footnote and endnote options.
In all cases, the citations will be made as if they were the first citations made for that particular book or article.
If you have problems creating citations or bibliographies, refer to the Troubleshooting section of the service for additional help.
