Scholarly, Full-Text Books and Articles Online The powerful Questia search function and a hyperlinked collection make it easier to select appropriate sources and develop a richer bibliography and ultimately, a better-researched paper. The search portion of our service is free so sources cited from the Questia collection can easily be confirmed. Questia recently completed a study of undergraduates' attitudes toward library research. Here is a sample of what we learned: Only 19% of students enjoy doing research for academic papers. Only 36% have a standard way that they organize, plan, and write all their papers. Questia helps them get started by enabling them to find the most relevant material for their topic, write in the margins and highlight passages in the books, and organize and save their work securely online, on Questia. Fifty percent of students surveyed said they would do more research on the Internet, but only about 33% say they find enough relevant information on the Internet for their research papers and less than 25% think online information is accurate and trustworthy. Students and professors alike know that much time can be wasted searching through a myriad of Web sites that may lack academic validity or credibility. With Questia, students can use the Internet to access an extensive collection of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly material that mirrors the actual printed texts cover-to-cover. Powerful search tools within the site enable students to pinpoint the exact volumes and pages that best meet their research needs. Searching on the Questia service is always free to everyone. Nearly 75% of students said 24-hour access to information resources is important to them and, as a result, 66% are interested in using an Internet service to help with research. Within the Questia library, books are never checked out or unavailable. Unlike hard copies, an unlimited number of users can read the same title, even the same page, simultaneously. Students have access to the library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from anywhere they have access to a computer and an Internet connection. With Questia, students can research and study when and where they want. |
