World Renowned Palgrave Becomes Questia Media's 225th Publisher

Global Academic Press Signs with Online Library for Students

HOUSTON Questia Media, Inc. announced today that Palgrave Publishers Ltd., Macmillan's global academic publishing division and part of the Holtzbrink Publishing Group, has joined its impressive list of publishing partners as the company's 225th signed house. Questia's online library launched on January 22, 2001, and includes more than 45,000 digitized scholarly books and journal articles. This agreement will enable Questia to incorporate hundreds of Palgrave titles into their service. Users can search the titles in the collection for free, and can access the full-text of the titles as well as use the writing and reference tools, such as the automatic footnote and bibliography generator, dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus and highlighter for a subscription fee.

"We are pleased that titles from Palgrave's internationally renowned list will now be available through Questia to students on the Internet worldwide," said Sam Burridge, Business Development Director for Palgrave. Palgrave's participation is indicative of the level of excellence to be found within the Questia collection. This is a natural and mutually beneficial partnership because our substantial and renowned list of books in the humanities and social sciences compliments the Questia collection, as it has a very similar focus.

Questia Founder and CEO Troy Williams said, "We are delighted to forge a relationship with Palgrave because we believe in the value of improving education through quality research. The Pew Internet and American Life Project found that 94 percent of youths online use the Internet for school research. Because the Internet is a pervasive force in the academic research habits of American teens, it is increasingly important to provide credible, high quality, academically oriented content online for all students to easily access."

Palgrave publishes about 700 new books each year, with market leading lists, particularly in the humanities and social sciences. Palgrave and its authors will benefit from Questia's unique business revenue model, in which rights holders are compensated each time a page in a book or journal is viewed. Beyond revenue generation for current titles, Questia creates new revenue potential for older, out—of—print, and backlisted titles currently not in circulation and thus, not generating revenue.

Since Questia provides unlimited access to all the titles in its collection, publishers can maximize their profits in a new way that has never been possible before.

Questia's list of publishing agreements includes many of the most respected university presses in the United States —— Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press, Yale University Press, University of Chicago Press, Columbia University Press, Stanford University Press and Cornell University Press, as well as quality trade houses such as W.W. Norton and Perseus Books.

Our collection development team, led by Dr. Carol Hughes, has conducted thorough research to determine which works are most important to undergraduate students, Williams said. We feel that the quality of the titles in our collection combined with the efficient writing and reference tools will vastly improve the research and paper writing process for students everywhere, quickly making Questia an indispensable resource for undergraduates.
