Esteemed Carnegie Corporation President to Guide Advancement of Online Library
HOUSTON, March 27, 2001 - Questia Media, the online library that helps college students write better papers faster and easier, today announced the appointment of Vartan Gregorian to the Questia Advisory Council. Dr. Gregorian, who is president of Carnegie Corporation, joins former First Lady Barbara Bush, Harvard University Library Director Dr. Sidney Verba, Xerox Corporation Chief Scientist Dr. John Seely Brown and Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Director Dr. Clifford Lynch on the Council, which has the mission of providing strategic counsel and guidance to Questia's senior leadership team.

"We are thrilled to welcome Vartan to Questia's Advisory Council. His incredible achievements in the academic and public library communities, as well as his commitment to global issues, bring a powerful perspective as we seek to grow and improve our service," said Troy Williams, CEO and founder of Questia Media, Inc.

As a former president of the New York Public Library, Gregorian is credited with revitalizing one of the nation's most significant institutions. During his tenure, Gregorian rejuvenated the library's materials and collections and is widely recognized as restoring the NYPL as a symbol of civic pride.

During eight years as president of Brown University, Gregorian attracted enthusiastic support from both alumni and students. Gregorian directed the largest fund-raising Campaign in Brown and Rhode Island history, Brown University's campaign for the Rising Generation. He has also held posts as dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and provost at the University of Pennsylvania.

Today, as president for the Carnegie Corporation, Gregorian's focus is identifying and addressing critical social issues, such as education and international peace.

"I am looking forward to working with the other members of the Council on what promises to be an exciting and innovative endeavor," said Vartan Gregorian.
