July 20, 2001, 6:06PM Questia Media sets up shop with AOL
Online library and research company Questia Media will get to show off its wares to as many as 30 million Internet users through a deal it signed Thursday with Internet giant America Online.
Under terms of the partnership, Questia will pay to sponsor portions of AOL's Research & Learn Channel and the AOL Parenting areas of Homework Help and Back to School. That means more than a dozen Questia ads and links to Questia will be found throughout those areas, which are visited by several million people each week.
Questia will also offer AOL subscribers a free one-month trial to its service, which provides research tools and access to more than 40,000 full-text humanities books.
Financial terms of the deal were not released. Questia's membership fee is $20 per month or $150 per year.
The Research & Learn Channel offers a one-stop shop for research and learning, including access to encyclopedias, phone directories and other tools, said Terry Crane, vice president of AOL Education, while the Homework Help areas provide kindergarten through 12th-grade students with a variety of academic services.
"Having an online library available in your home is one of the resources that has been requested by our members in the past," Crane said. "More than 80 percent of universities offer some sort of online distance learning, so the demand for online research tools will no doubt increase."
