WOMEN in the Shankill area of west Belfast are set to combat obesity and depression when a new fitness programme gets under way.
The health project - funded by a pounds 228,315 lottery cash boost - is being championed by Women in Sport and Physical Activity (WISPA).
And to get things off the ground they organised a five-a-side women's football tournament in Paisley Park yesterday.
Audrey Barr, development worker for the project, suffered with depression after the birth of her twins. Now she hopes to help break the cycle for other women in the Greater Shankill area.
She said: ''We want to encourage as many women to get involved in physical activity to improve their health as possible.
"The programmes we plan are very flexible, and will address issues such as smoking, drinking, weight problems, anxiety, depression and stress management.
