Contractors Ask PGMA, Soriquez to Help Them Get Paid by DPWH

GENERAL SANTOS CITY Contractors in Sultan Kudarat are asking President Arroyo and Public Works Secretary Florante Soriquez to help them get paid, even in partial payment of R25 million, of their R84-million claims since June last year.

The appeal was made by the Hinterland Contractors Association HCA) Inc., an association of 22 contractors, who complained that the engineering district office in Sultan Kudarat refused to pay them despite the allocation of R25-million funds released by the Department of Budget and Management last June 10.

In their letter to President Arroyo and Secretary Soriquez, the contractors have not only appealed to be paid initially of R25 million, but also asked that officer-in-charge district engineer Doroteo Ines Jr. be investigated and punished for refusing to pay their approved vouchers.

The Sultan Kudarat Engineering District received R25 million on June 10 but Ines refused to disburse the funds to pay our vouchers, the contractors said.

May we request that the erring official be investigated and imposed with appropriate sanctions, the contractors added.

The voucher claims amounting to R84 million cover the finished and ongoing infrastructure projects in Sultan Kudarat since June last year, including construction of roads, bridges, drainage and canals, gravelling and water systems, among others. …
