Career history: Teaching at Roosevelt since 1989, at Miami of Ohio '88, and as graduate assistant at Ohio State '86-'87. Previously ('67-'86) reporter at Champaign, III., Courier; then political writer, assistant editor, managing editor with column and editorial writing roles at Chicago suburban weeklies; then copy editor and city editor at mid-sized dailies including Pine Bluff, Ark., late '70s; Carbondale, III.; and Kingsport, Tenn., mid-'80s. Realized I was teaching a lot as part of the job, especially with green young recent grads. I've taught Roosevelt's opinion-writing course about once a year since 1990, and have had gracious response in very limited contacts with the editorial page folk at the Tribune, Sun-Times, Daily Herald and Daily Southtown.
Recent news: The School of Communication recently opened spiffy new digs at 18 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, four blocks from the university's historic home and current headquarters -- and 25 miles from my office in the suburban campus we opened in 1996. …
