A TEENAGE girl has been found murdered in a lake at a beauty spot.

Two boys out skateboarding discovered the body of Rachel Glenn, who would have celebrated her 16th birthday next week, floating in the shallows.

Police said she had died from drowning but also had head injuries.

The vivacious, blue-eyed, brown-haired schoolgirl had not been home since Wednesday.

Her parents thought she was staying with one of her many friends or with relatives and did not raise the alarm about her disappearance until Friday.

The man leading the murder hunt, Detective Superintendent Bryan Warraker, said: 'It was not unusual for her to stop out.' Her said Rachel's parents and the rest of her close-knit family were distraught.

'She had three brothers, and everyone is in deep shock. She was a popular and well-liked girl.' Police said there were no signs of a sexual assault but they are understood to be searching for missing items of her clothing.

Yesterday they sealed off a mile-square area around the scene at Charnwood Water in Loughborough, Leicestershire, three miles from Rachel's home, as a team of frogmen scoured the six-foot deep lake.

Detectives appealed for any walkers, fishermen, or sailors, who had noticed anything unusual, 'however trivial' to come forward.

Her body was discovered on Saturday afternoon. It is not yet known how long she had been in the water. Rachel was last seen_ at lunchtime on Wednesday by a friend. …
