A MEMBER of a gang which carried out a string of offences across England, including a distraction burglary at the home of an 83-year-old Coventry woman, has been jailed for nine years.

Police in Coventry welcomed the sentence imposed on Felix Hanrahan, 24, of no fixed address, after he admitted a number of crimes, including robbery and two other distraction burglaries, during 2002 and 2003.

Hanrahan was one of three men who stole an undisclosed sum of cash after tricking their way into the pensioner's home in Stevenage Walk, off Walsgrave Gardens, Coventry, in April last year.

Residents who spotted police chasing the three sprang to help officers. One member was arrested shortly afterwards, in nearby Manfield Avenue.

Hanrahan and the third offender escaped.

DNA evidence later proved Hanrahan's involvement in the case. The case against him at Leeds Crown Court follows the sentencing of one of his accomplices, Terrence Connor. …
