When Grammy Award-winning singer Stephanie Mills performs here later this month, Edward Waters College students will benefit in more ways than one.
Not only will the event raise money to support the fine arts program, but some students will get to perform with Mills.
"The experience of working with a legendary artist is invaluable for aspiring performers," said EWC spokesman Henry Smith. "We provide these kind of opportunities whenever we can because it builds camaraderie and morale and is a great way for students to see what it's really like to be a professional artist."
Mills is scheduled to perform the school's fifth annual Fine Arts Scholarship Benefit Concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in Jacoby Hall at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. The concert will also feature the Edward Waters Concert Choir and Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
EWC President Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr. said he was hoping to attract sponsors for the concert.
"Past concerts have received tremendous support from our friends, and we are thankful for their outstanding contributions," he said. …
