Women at Village Green Baptist Church will ponder the question "Why Did Christ Have to Die?"

A six-week women's Bible study is beginning. One group meets from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesdays, and another is at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, both beginning next week at the church, 200 S. Lambert Road, Glen Ellyn.

These two groups will use a compilation of several writers' work published by Discovery House. The free groups are open to any woman who wishes to attend; and no prior Bible knowledge is necessary.

"Various people in our congregation started the women's Bible study groups because they had this passion to help women learn more about God," said Cyndie Johnson, a member of the Wednesday morning group and an organizer of the new sessions.

Johnson said the Wednesday morning Bible study offers free baby- sitting and begins with a brief fellowship time as the women settle in. They break into small groups for discussion, go over the weekly lesson and spend time praying, including prayers for those in need.

The group wraps up when the women all come together again, and ends with fellowship time that includes the child-care workers and the children.

Activities during this fellowship time vary, and the women and children may decide to have lunch, or during the holidays, a gift exchange.

The Thursday evening group begins with fellowship time but does not break into small groups for discussion and prayer. …
