POLICE have confirmed that a fourth staff member at a Barnardo children's home has been accused of child sex abuse.
One of the victims in the case - in which Sarah Jane Margaret Hewitt and Robert George Anderson were found guilty of a catalogue of child sex abuse - told officers there was another paedophile working at the Macedon home in Newtownabbey..
Hewitt, 69, formerly from Drains Bay near Larne, and Anderson, 46, from Hillhead Road in Ballycarry, who now has an address in England, were found guilty of 70 charges between them between 1977 and 1981. They are awaiting sentencing.
And police are still hunting for a man named in court as Colin McKeating, who also worked at the home, after the DPP opted to begin a prosecution against him.
But cops say there is simply not enough evidence to hunt down the fourth staff member, who has not been identified.
Officers close to the case said the decision not to proseucte the worker, who is still living in Northern Ireland, had been made by the DPP.
"Despite that, it is believed that this person may well have been involved in this activity, as well as within a wider sex ring within Northern Ireland," said one officer. …
