Army Pvt. Pennie Jenkins has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
During nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Gloria Jenkins of Fernandina Beach.
Army Pvt. Ronald S. Hammer has graduated from the petroleum officer course at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va.
The eight-week course is the senior petroleum and water management course offered in the Army. Its purpose is to provide officers and Department of Defense civilians with joint service, theater-level management skills. The students received intensive training and planning in all areas of petroleum, water and laboratory operations, including five field trips to various defense department and civilian petroleum facilities.
