BANNING mini-motorbikes would be difficult, according to a Coventry MP.
Bob Ainsworth, MP for Coventry North-east, spoke out after the parents of a city girl mown down by one called for them to be outlawed.
Belgrade Youth theatre member Catherine Royle, aged 15, was knocked unconscious when she was hit by a minibike as she walked on the pavement in Nuffield Road, Courthouse Green, Coventry, last Tuesday.
She suffered concussion and cuts and grazes and needed hospital treatment.
Her mother Irene, of Parry Road, Wyken, Coventry, said her daughter was still unable to return to Lyng Hall School in Wyken.
Last week, she and her husband, Pat, a 56-year-old taxi driver, called for the mini bikes to be banned.
They contacted Mr Ainsworth, who is also the Labour Party's deputy chief whip, to seek his support.
But Mr Ainsworth said: "It is difficult to say what you can buy and what you can't buy.
"It's extremely difficult to say things of a certain size ought to be banned.
"They ought to be brought under the same regulations as anybody else if someone is driving them in an unsafe manner. …
