Byline: By Bob Caldwell
JAZZ singer Carol Grimes is a true individual in the musical world.
Her approach is so individual it is almost impossible to say where her style, as demonstrated on her impressive CD Mother, comes from.
Full of drama, well-written songs with good tunes and powerful lyrics, her music could easily belong to the world of folk or even cabaret.
However, her musical associates are true jazz professionals. Cellist Stanley Adler, whom I first heard at a Bude Jazz Festival, fits in well with trumpeter Harry Beckett, trombonist Annie Whitehead and drummer Mark Fletcher.
He is described on the CD's notes as being responsible for percussion, drums ... and fire extinguisher.
Carol and her all-star cast head to Coventry this weekend and will be appearing in concert at Warwick Arts Centre on Sunday. Phone 024 7652 4524 for tickets.
ENERGETIC band Barry Martyn and the Young Bloods make a welcome return to the area next week.
They can be seen at the Sports Connexion …
