"21st Century Communities: Local Governments Leading and Learning" is the theme for the 2005 Congress for Technology Leadership, presented by the Public Technology Institute, April 13-15, 2005 in Portland, Ore.
Through interactive discussions and presentations, the Congress for Technology Leadership will bring together local government leaders who will examine the role technology plays in responding to the challenges of the 21st century.
Educational and networking activities will be offered in three tracks: "Technology, government and public policy;" "The future of electronic government;" and "Technologies guiding homeland security."
Each track will include a general session that sets the stage for the workshops that will follow. These workshops will feature best practices and first-hand examples of how local governments can address a particular problem or issue, cut costs, and improve efficiencies.
Workshops that will be of particular interest to city elected officials include:
* Cultivating a Technology Leadership Team
* What Citizens Value and How Do You Know?
* Delivering Broadband to the Community
* Community Security: Framing the Challenge, Exploring the Options
There are several new activities planned for the Congress for Technology Leadership this year. The Solutions Showcase will feature demonstrations of innovative technology applications by cities that that have won the prestigious PTI Solutions Award, distinguishing their technology leadership and commitment to technology innovation. …
