DAANBANTAYAN, Cebu -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday led the submarine cable-laying in barangay Talisay, this town, for the $68-million Cebu-Leyte Power Interconnection Uprating Project aimed at increasing the Leytesourced power supply to Cebu from 200 megawatts (MW) to 400 MW.
The President, who arrived in this northern most part of Cebu, was grateful that the project, a joint venture of Kanematsu Corporation and J-Power, has finally started after almost 10 years of planning and preparations.

The President said more investors are coming to Cebu with its abundant power supply. The investments, she says, will eventually create more jobs for Cebuanos.
Alan Ortiz, National Transmission Corporation (Transco) president, said the project will help avert the impending power crisis in Cebu and help prevent the migration of big companies, especially those on Mactan Island, from Cebu to other places.
President Arroyo also announced during a press conference here that she will be visit Cebu again next month to inaugurate the new Timex Logistics Hub at the Mactan Export Processing Zone in Lapu- Lapu City. She said the new Timex facility will create more jobs for Cebuanos.
