Sen. Alfredo S. Lim condemned as not only a barbaric act but the worst crime a policeman can commit the shooting of a private vehicle occupied by innocent civilians and a child by members of the SWAT force in Navotas who were chasing a band of robbers.
"Just because the policemen were in pursuit of robbers, such did not give them the license and liberty to shoot at will any vehicle, even including the robbers getaway van, unless there was imminent danger to their lives," said Lim, a former chief of the Manila police and director of the National Bureau of Investigation.
Lim said the lawmen involved in the shooting were obviously "trigger happy SWAT members" who have no right to remain any longer as members of the police force .

"I condemn in the strongest term the reported indiscriminate shooting of a private vehicle occupied by innocent civilians and a child by members of the SWAT force in Navotas purportedly in pursuit of robbers.
"The Tamaraw FX van was parked at a gasoline station to refill with a brake fluid with its hood still up when SWAT men pursuing suspected robbers on board a van of similar type, armed with high powered automatic weapons, chanced upon the van, approached it and without warning nor any slightest danger to their persons, immediately fired upon the drivers side and its occupants riddling it with bullets and shattering its window.
