Philippine National Police (PNP) officials assured President Arroyo yesterday that they would stop the operation of jueteng (underground lotto) in Luzon, particularly in Central Luzon and Bicol.
This developed as President Arroyo and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Angelo T. Reyes ordered the PNP to implement the so-called "command responsibility principle" in the anti-jueteng campaign.
Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio R. Bunye said that the anti-jueteng drive would require the coordinated efforts of all concerned to make it successful.
Deputy Director General Oscar Calderon, PNP Directorial Staff chief, assured the President that the PNP would do all it can to get rid of jueteng.
During a media interaction over the weekend in Limay, Bataan, Calderon said that the President and the DILG chief have ordered the PNP to go all-out against jueteng and implement the principle of command responsibility as the campaign gets going.
The PNP official said that under the "command responsibility principle", all PNP officials who fail to make up from the "three-strike rule" will be booted out at once from their position. …
