Montecillo Cup Jungolf Slated at Southwoods

THE SEARCH for the countrys top jungolfers for boys and girls will be settled when the inaugural Philippine Junior Golf Championships is held on May 17 to 20 at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.

Also to be acknowledge as the Montecillo Cup in honor of jungolf founder and chairwoman Amalia, the tourney serving as one of the highlights of the Samsung Jungolf Tour will feature the current crop of jungolfers battle for the title in two stages.

The first stage will select the top 16 players in the boys and girls division via a two-day stroke play tournament. Action shifts to match play the last two days.

Several sponsors have expressed interest in supporting the event in addition to the sponsorships of Samsung, Philippine Airlines and Unilever. They are Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, Titleist through Dynamic Sports and the First Gentleman Sports Foundation.

Jungolf Foundation of the Philippines president Raoul Lachica said that in staging the Montecillo Cup, they hope to recognize the efforts of the lady who can be credited for laying the foundation of the golf boom in Asia and establish an event which will ultimately decide whos the best junior players in the country. …
