STEVEN GERRARD believes history beckons for Liverpool in Istanbul as defeat in the European Cup final is simply not an option for the men from Anfield Liverpool will keep the European Cup if they beat AC Milan and lift the famous trophy for a fifth time tonight.
Anfield's inspirational captain admits it will be the proudest moment of his life when he leads out Rafael Benitez's team at the Ataturk Stadium.
But having defied the odds and the champions of both Italy and England to reach the Turkish capital, Gerrard insists it will be 'criminal' if Liverpool do not end their 21-year wait for the greatest club prize in football.
'I have dreamed of this day ever since I was a kid kicking a ball against the wall in the street where I lived,' said the Liverpool skipper. 'It will be the proudest moment of my life leading Liverpool out and the biggest night of my life.
'It would be great to be the captain who kept the European Cup for Liverpool. Put it this way, we are not going to Istanbul to just turn up and enjoy the night, we are going there to win it.
