The contract to build the $324 million Mubarak Television Studios was awarded in January 1997 to The Fourth Consortium (T4C), a joint venture between the Anglo/Norwegian Kvaerner Construction International (KCI), now Skanska Cementation International, and Japan's Sony Broadcast & Production Europe. The original contract covered the construction and fit-out of a six-studio facility designed by Sofratev. Under the terms of the contract, KCI was responsible for detailed designs and construction, worth about $225 million, while Sony had an $89 million package to supply equipment.
