I should start by confessing that I am a big fan of Red House Books, a subsidiary of The Book People.
With two young children, both of whom are avid readers, I have been a customer of the company for some years now.
The choice of books is pretty cool, but what is really great is the way the brand talks about books.
Selling books to children may sound like child's play (sorry, couldn't help myself), but there is a fine art to judging both the tone of voice and content when doing so. There are two quite different audiences here: kids who simply want something funny/scary/ interesting to read, and uptight parents like me, anxious to find the right books for their little darlings.
Red House Books gets this balance exactly right. You can simply hand the leaflet over to the children to read, or flick through it yourself and find practical advice on the right books to stimulate, educate and amuse.
Moreover, with Christmas on the way, my brood are paying particular attention to the latest edition.
This mailing manages to be engaging, charming, information-rich and helpful.
