The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which begins Wednesday and runs through Jan. 25, will be cause for celebration with flowers carrying a message of love.
The international observance of prayer is given special meaning by the traditions of Warrenville Persons in Ministry, a group of local clergy and ministry leaders.
The group will deliver carnations Jan. 21 and cap the week at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 with a community-wide service at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 29W260 Batavia Road.
The flowering fundraiser for those in need locally will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 21 when members of Warrenville area churches will work together to deliver red carnations to anyone who might need a day brightener - an elderly neighbor, new mother, sick relative or teen-age friend.
Each carnation costs $5 and is tagged with the message "God Loves You and So Do I." All deliveries must be located within a five-mile radius of Illinois Route 59 and Batavia Road. Orders should be placed in advance by Monday.
Last year was the first rose delivery event, said Lynda Stickelmaier of Warrenville, and it raised $700 for the Local Emergency Assistance Fund operated by Warrenville Persons in Ministry. …
