Q I AM planning a holiday to New Zealand later this year and wanted to know if you could give me some stopover suggestions? I am open to any ideas and we will have around two or three nights on each journey to stay over.

A EN route to New Zealand you have an excellent choice of stopover destinations, mainly in Asia, the South Pacific and the USA. The cheapest options are usually via Asia. If you are looking for bustling cities and great shopping bargains then try places like Hong Kong, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur - you will also find plenty of sightseeing opportunities in these cities.

If you have never been to Asia before, Singapore is a good place to start. Alternatively, if sitting on the beach is more your style then try the Cook Islands or Tahiti.

Stopovers are also possible in the USA, including New York, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. You could also go via Canada and Rio de Janeiro. For a really amazing trip I would recommend going right around the world - stopping somewhere like Hong Kong on your way out to have ample opportunities for sightseeing, great nights out and shopping.
