ECHO readers who helped apprehend evil child-killer Joel Smith are now being asked to help catch his accomplice.
Smith was jailed for life and told he would serve a minimum of 40 years after he was convicted of gunning down seven-year-old Toni-Ann Byfield.
Police in London praised ECHO readers after calls revealed the killer was hiding in Merseyside.
Today, detectives again appealed to the city for information to lead them to one, possibly two men they believe acted with Smith.
In August, we revealed inmates from Walton jail had helped seal Smith's fate by giving evidence after he had confided in them.
Now, officers from the Metropolitan Police believe a second person may have broken into the north London flat with Smith in September, 2003.
Three years ago, little Toni-Ann watched as drug dealer Betram Byfield - the man she regarded as her father - was shot.
Smith then turned the gun on Toni-Ann as he tried to eliminate the only witness to the murder.
Detective superintendent Neil Basu told the ECHO: "I am looking for anyone who spoke to Joel Smith to come forward as they may have information about an accomplice involved. …
