Giovanni Angelini, chief executive officer and managing director of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts was recently named "2006 Corporate Hotelier of the World" by Hotels, the magazine of the worldwide hotel industry. This award was voted upon by over 60,000 HOTELS' readers in 170 countries.
Angelini attributes this award to the creation of a stable team of exemplary management and staff. Its dedication to delivering the highest standards of service, and embracing the corporate culture of "Shangri-La Hospitality from Caring People," has produced not only the highest profitability in the group's history, but one of the lowest staff turnover ratios in the industry. This record of success is also reflection of the group's investment in training which ranks among the industry's highest.
Since Angelini assumed his leadership position in 1999, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has more than doubled in size, growing from 22 to 49 properties in 13 countries and regions today. The expansion has encompassed non-traditional boundaries; today there are 45 projects under development in Canada, mainland China, France, India, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines, Qatar, Seychelles, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States.
"Our readers have voted Giovanni Angelini 2006 Corporate Hotelier of the World because he is a visionary leader, demonstrating the highest standards of international hospitality management and development," said Jeff Weinstein, editor-in-chief of HOTELS magazine. …
