Joseph F. Szabo A memorial service for Joseph F. Szabo, of Des Plaines and St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mount Prospect. Born Jan. 19, 1921, in Pardany, Yugoslavia, to Matyas and Anna (nee Schneider) Szabo, he passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in Glenview. Following the death of his father, his mother remarried and immigrated to the United States. Six months later, she was able to send for her son and at 11 years of age, Joseph traveled unaccompanied to the United States. After a brief stay at Ellis Island, he was reunited with his mother in Des Plaines in January of 1933. Joseph graduated from Maine Township High School in 1940 and attended Maine Junior College until 1942, at which time he entered the U.S. Army. Joseph served with the 13th Armored Division in Europe. He married Elizabeth Karthan in 1946 and founded Szabo Construction Company in 1948. …
