In his article on anti-semitism (December 21), Professor Milton Shain states: "These ideas flowered throughout the 19th century, merging with Darwin's notion of natural selection and Herbert Spencer's 'survival of the fittest'."
As a person with a particular interest in evolution, intelligent design and creationism, I wonder if Shain could further expand on the relationship between Darwinism and anti-semitism?
Did Darwinism lead to greater anti-semitism because the Jews were viewed as a inferior race, or because they were viewed as superior? Does the fact that Jews still tend to come out on top mean that they represent the "survival of the fittest"?
