THREE 12-year-old joyriders were involved in a high-speed car chase with gardai early yesterday morning.
They were arrested after their car ploughed into another vehicle on a city centre street.
They also destroyed a set of traffic lights in the collision in Washington Street, Cork, at around 3am.
Green Party councillor Chris O'Leary said: "These guys could have smashed into someone and killed them. It is inexcusable."
Cllr O'Leary, whose house was firebombed by youngsters last year, was shocked by the incident.
He added: "I was totally taken aback by the story. My stance on this is very clear. At this stage one would have to say the parents can't cope.
There is a role for the Health Service Executive in dealing with this.
"I have daughters and they could have killed one of them if they were on a night out.
"What went on with that chase is unbelievable. Will we have to wait until someone is killed before something is done?
"It is a shirking of responsibility by parents who can't cope or manage.
"I firmly believe parents are allowing parental responsibility to go to teachers and youth workers. …
