ULSTER'S hopes of retaining the Magners League title lie in tatters after a quite astonishing comeback from Munster at Ravenhill last night.

After playing some superb rugby when they ran in three tries in the first 25 minutes to lead 21-3 at the break Ulster somehow inextricably and embarrassingly went to sleep in the second half and a Munster side that one supporter nicknamed the "Munster Academy" scored three converted tries to deservedly win leaving Ulster to wonder where it all went wrong.

This was a Munster team with only Jerry Flannery of their internationals in the starting line-up.

Ulster made their intentions clear from as early as the seventh minute.

Ulster won a line-out, moved the ball left and Andrew Trimble's perfectly timed pass sent Paul Steinmetz over the line.

From another penalty they kicked for touch, won the line-out and Roger Wilson crashed over with a helpful shove from Justin Harrison.

A Eoghan Hickey penalty, two minutes later, cut into the Ulster lead but on 25 minutes, from a scrum, David Humphreys set Trimble on his way for the third try as he cut through the Munster midfield defence, albeit with a hint of a forward pass. …
