RAGING wildfires raced towards celebrity mansions on the Malibu shorelast night as fierce winds fuelled a second day of blazes in SouthernCalifornia.
More than 40,000 acres were burnt from Santa Barbara to the Mexican border inSan Diego. and governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency.
One person has been killed and 250,000 residents evacuated from the dangerzones around 12 separate fires.
Mel Gibson, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Newton John and Titanic director JamesCameron were among those forced to leave their multi-million pound homes inMalibu. Other Hollywood A-listers whose homes are in direct danger include SeanPenn, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and David Arquette plus music and moviemogul David Geffen.
The coastal area is also home to stars including Barbra Streisand, RichardGere, Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson, Dick Van Dyke, Robert Redford and Sting.
At least five mansions burned in flames driven at 80mph by the hot Santa Anawinds.
