The larger faction of the Liberal Party (LP) allied with Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Jose "Lito" L. Atienza Jr. has asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for permission to file amendments to its case against Sen. Manuel "Mar" A. Roxas II and former Senate President Franklin M. Drilon on the basis of new evidence.
"We requested from the Comelec a leave to file amendments to our case against Mar and Drilon given new supervening evidences that could help make our petition more solid," former Northern Samar Rep. Harlin Cast-Abayon, one of the petitioners in the case and the group's lawyer, said.
A case was filed by Atienza, Abayon, and several others questioning the election of Roxas as president of the Liberal Party last Nov. 26.
"We are doing this so we can cover all our bases," Abayon added. "We do not want a repeat of what happened in the Supreme Court last year."
