SINGLE parent Jeff Galuidi has ambitions to be a teacher.
Jeff, 39, won the Health and Social Care category of the awards.
He is in his first year of a two year Early Years Foundation Degree course at Redcar and Cleveland College.
Jeff hopes to go on to take a further year's BA (Hons) degree course in his third year.
"I began the course to further my education and to put me in a more qualified position. I want to become a teacher in time," he said.
Jeff has a daughter and a son. His nine-year-old son Jackson, who lives with him, has a form of muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair.
Jeff has been involved in voluntary work for four years at Jackson's school and has made a positive contribution to both staff and pupils.
One aspect of the work on his course is the school placements.
"Working with children in the schools is what drives me. I like helping out and doing what I can.
"It is a really rewarding atmosphere to be in," he said.
Jeff said he also enjoyed the child psychology and child development aspects of the course.
"I enjoy the course. it keeps me on my feet and gives me something very worthwhile to do.
