Lorine Artz

McKENZIE BRIDGE - A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at McKenzie Bridge Christian Church for Lorine L. Artz of Mc-Kenzie Bridge. She died April 6 of age-related causes at age 82. A reception will be held at the church after the service.

She was born July 19, 1925, in Tuttle, Okla., to Bevins and Elonny Howarth Bell. She married Charles Artz on Oct. 30, 1987, in Reno, Nev.

She was a homemaker and a high school graduate. She operated a bed and breakfast establishment.

Survivors include a son, Michael Collins of Alaska; two stepdaughters, Madelyn Sharp of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Judy Washburn of Stockton, Calif.; three stepsons, Charles Artz Jr. of Fairfield, Calif., Frank Krebs of Orangevale, Calif., and Fred Krebs of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Mary Sizelove of McKenzie Bridge; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her third husband, Charles Artz, died Nov. 12, 2002, and her first and second husbands, Lester Collins and James Krebs, died previously.

Lottie Briggs-Becker-Fry

VENETA - The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene for Lottie L. Briggs-Becker-Fry of Veneta. She died April 5 of age-related causes at age 98. Burial will be in McCulloch Cemetery.

She was born March 13, 1910, in Hadleyville to John and Nannie Diess Briggs. She married Stephen Becker on Aug. 11, 1928, in Eugene, and they later divorced. She married Howard Fry on Oct. 4, 1961 in Riddle. He died in March 1991.

She worked as a housekeeper, bean picker and child care giver.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Sparks and Augusta Godell, both of Eugene, and Carolina Hook of La Grande; a son, Stephen Becker of Veneta; a sister, Viola Meer of Crow; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Her former husband died in July 1968 and two grandsons and one great-grandson died previously.

Remembrances to Olivet Baptist Church, Crow Grange or Applegate Museum building fund.

Robert Emerson

VENETA - A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Olivet Baptist Church in Veneta for Robert Gale Emerson of Veneta, formerly of Florence. He died April 6 of cancer at age 70.

He was born May 26, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., to Arlyn and Lucille Jones Emerson. He married Florence Volk on March 3, 1983, in Payette, Idaho.

Emerson served in the Navy Seabees and Navy Reserve, serving from 1959 to 1963 as a construction driver. He worked as a policeman in San Bernardino, Calif., for 10 years and as a truck driver in Utah, retiring in 1991. He graduated from Colton High School and held a college degree in law enforcement.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Leonard of California; a daughter, Pamela Brennard of Utah; a sister, Joann Emerson Alm of Hurst, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Leonard Freeman

JUNCTION CITY - The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroe for Leonard Joseph Freeman of Junction City. He died April 4 of pneumonia at age 88.Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Rest Lawn Cemetery in Junction City. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m.

Freeman was born June 2, 1919, in Redstone, Mont., to Ben and Mary Fugle Freeman. He married Velma Jean Walden on Feb. 7, 1945, in Monroe. She died May 21, 1989. He married Helen Goracke in 1992 in Monroe.

He had a high school education and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dorothy Hansen of Junction City; four stepsons, Terry Goracke of Junction City, Dan Goracke of Monroe and Jeff Goracke and Tom Goracke, both of Bellfountain; a stepdaughter, Peggy Goracke of Monroe; a sister, Mary Fisher of Junction City; a brother, Paul of Junction City; two grand-children, 15 stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. …
