TALLAHASSEE -- Florida State defensive tackle Emmanuel Dunbar collapsed on the practice field Wednesday during a drill and was taken by ambulance to Capital Regional Medical Center.
Dunbar, who in November 2006 had surgery to fuse two herniated disks in his back, had to have his jersey cut off and his shoulder pads removed by members of the Seminoles' training staff before he was transported.
The injury to the junior, who was projected to start the first three games while three other defensive tackles serve suspensions, cast a pall over practice.
Fellow defensive tackle Paul Griffin said Dunbar's back appeared to get twisted on the first play of a drill against the offensive line.
"It was scary," Griffin said. "I'm just going to pray for him and hope that he comes back and gets ready."
FSU defensive line coach Odell Haggins, who declined to discuss specifics of Dunbar's injury, was visibly shaken.
