JOLO, Sulu -- The 35th Bishops-Ulamas Council (BUC) interfaith general assembly formally opened here yesterday at the Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) with over 200 Muslim and Christian religious leaders, including observers, in attendance.
Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan welcomed the religious leaders here during the opening of the two-day assembly as he vowed to extend all the necessary support they need in their effort to attain peace and development in this province and in other troubled areas in Mindanao.
Christian and Muslim religious leaders were all in high hopes of attaining a better avenues to regain the long lost peace in most areas in Mindanao.
Tan also congratulated the church leaders of Mindanao for holding the conference in this town, which he claimed is an indication that Sulu is now peaceful and ready to host conferences like the BUC interfaith assembly.
"I congratulate each and every one of you for holding your BUC general assembly in this town, Jolo. Holding of such conferences like the BUC interfaith is a clear indication that Sulu is peaceful," the governor said.
For his part, Mayor Hussin Amin also thanked the members of the forum for choosing this town as their venue for their general assembly this year. …
