The nation starts today the observance of National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week (NDAPCW), with a 10 a.m. kick-off ceremonies led by Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) chairman Vicente "Tito" C. Sotto III at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
Sotto, who keynoted the three-day "3rd Asian Recovery Symposium" from Nov. 4 to 6 in Tagaytay City, is expected to anchor his speech this morning on the theme, "Pamilyang Pagkakaisa Laban sa Droga.''
Secretary Sotto will be joined by House of Representatives Committee on Illegal Drugs chairman Ilocos Norte Rep. Roque Ablan Jr., Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista, the city's anti-drug abuse council chairman, and heads of drug law enforcement agencies - including the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Also expected are representatives from anti-illegal drug teams of the Bureau of Customs (BoC), the Bureau of Immigration (BI), and civic organizations including the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), the government's Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission (PAGC), and anti-drug task groups from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and barangay officials.
Parents and youth, including students, are expected at the opening program of NDAPCW where Sotto is expected to push his advocacy of the "Filipino family" as the key solution to the country's illegal drug problem. …
