COVENTRY CITY'S injury problems have worsened with the news that David Bell is out for the rest of the season.
Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman was hoping to have the winger back for tonight's match at Crystal Palace, where he will be without Stephen Wright and Jordan Henderson, while Leon Best, who was taken off with a groin strain on Saturday, will travel to make up the numbers on the bench.
Bell (below) has had an on-going problem in his right ankle, which has caused pain in his left side, affecting his calf, knee and back, and is being sent for an operation to ensure he is fit for the pre-season.
Isaac Osbourne is set to come in for rightback Wright, who misses the trip to Selhurst Park with a knee injury, while Robbie Simpson could come in for Henderson, who has been sent to a specialist for a second opinion amid concerns that he may have broken a bone in a foot.
"Unfortunately we have had a really bad week with injuries," said Coleman. "We are going to lose David Bell until the start of pre-season because he has had a bad reaction with his calf and knee. He has been over-compensating for a problem with his right ankle, and his back is starting to play up as well. So rather than getting another couple of games out of him and risk causing more damage, we have had a chat and we are going to get him in as soon as possible to get some surgery done, which will, unfortunately, be the end of David for this season. …
