A lecture on the American Impressionist and Realist paintings currently on show at the Queensland Art Gallery is being presented at Grafton Regional Gallery next Saturday, June 27 at 11am.
The Met Lecture is presented by the Queensland art Gallery as part of a regional lecture tour to 19 regional centres to promote the ' American Impressionism and Realism: A Landmark Exhibition from The Met' a major exhibition showing exclusively in Brisbane from May 30 until September 20, 2009.
The exhibition has been curated by H Barbara Weinberg, and Alice Pratt Brown Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
Queensland Art Gallery Director Tony Ellwood said "The exhibition includes 71 works from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's American Wing including paintings by James McNeill Whistler, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, William Merritt Chase and Mary Cassatt.
"In addition to the works on loan from The Met, the exhibition features 30 significant works by Australian artists such as Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Frederick McCubbin and Rupert Bunny."
American Impressionism and Realism: A Landmark Exhibition from The Met has been organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in collaboration with Art Exhibitions Australia and the Queensland Art Gallery.
