What Is 'Membership' for the AMA?

The American Management Association is a membership-based, not-for-profit organization. Our purpose is to promote the effectiveness of individuals and enterprises worldwide by identifying best management practices on a global basis. This greater effectiveness is achieved through improved organizational productivity and profitability, the true sustainable competitive advantage for any organization.

We help managers in nearly 100 countries learn about and use global best practices through all our media and formats - seminar instruction, interactive computer or CD-ROM programs and publications of all types, including Management Review.

Nearly 80 percent of the businesses we recently surveyed recognized and valued the AMA for these contributions. Relatively few enterprises and individuals, however, recognize the benefits of membership in the AMA.

AMA's membership is open to every enterprise committed to improving its effectiveness and every individual seeking to enhance his or her knowledge, skills and effectiveness. Our membership philosophy is to be inclusive and provide a lifelong professional association for peers across all industries. AMA's objective is to connect all members through a "Members Only" Web site, to be announced shortly, and through our publications. AMA also provides financially significant benefits to all members.

"Practitioners teaching practitioners" is the operational guide of AMA's seminar and conference program. "Peers helping peers" is the corresponding role of membership. AMA forms a framework within which individuals and enterprises can benefit by sharing experiences and jointly evaluating best practices.

Knowing the key people in one's industry is essential for organizational effectiveness and competitive analysis. Relating to peers in different industries often is the path to a greater understanding of one's profession, and the cross-fertilization of ideas among industries and nations often is the source of new learning and greater competitive advantage. …
