NEWCASTLE will be home to the country's leading environmental researchers as Science City bosses finalise building plans.

A flagship science HQ to be built on the site of the former Tyne brewery will be used exclusively for research into green energy, The Journal can reveal.

A pounds 20m infrastructure project is currently under way to prepare the land near St James' Park for the building, which should be one of the city's most impressive when it is finished and occupied in 2014.
