BUTUAN CITY - The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) in Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region) directed all local government units (LGUs) and local disaster coordinating councils Thursday to promote disaster consciousness and prepare mitigating measures against the La Nina phenomenon which is already hitting the region with the onset of rains.
The RDCC, along with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), also asked various disaster councils to continue their drill activities to familiarize various rescue teams to their tasks during calamities.
Chief Supt. Lino D. Calingasan, regional director of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) and chairman of RDCC, said local disaster councils in the region are also enjoined to promote disaster risk management awareness to the public.
The directive is in line with the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month next month.
"We would like to request you also to display a streamer bearing this year's theme: 'Pag-alerto, Malaya sa Peligro' in your respective offices," Calingasan told LGU and disaster council representatives.
Meanwhile, to ensure safety during earthquakes, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), in coordination with the OCD in Northern Mindanao (Region 10), and Northern Mindanao Phivolcs Seismic Station, conducted an earthquake preparedness orientation to all provincial employees in Tubod, Lanao del Norte province on Wednesday. …
