AFP Vows to Protect Country's Remaining Forests 'At All Cost'

LORETO, Agusan del Sur - In its effort to help the government mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced Thursday their full support for environment preservation and forest protection."My brigade will unceasingly run after forests despoilers without fear or favor. It is high time to give them a lesson that their illegal business will never prosper under the watchful eyes of my men. This will serve as a warning to them," said Brig. Gen. Eduardo P. Del Rosario, commanding general of the Army's 1003rd Infantry Brigade.He stressed that the remaining forest cover "must be protected at all cost" to mitigate global warming and climate change.The said forest products came from Loreto, Agusan del Sur, Paquibato District, Monkayo, New Corella and Laak with a volume of 225.92 cubic meters approximately valued at P834,940. Some of the confiscated products were without papers while others, especially the planted trees, were under-declared.This was not the only time that Del Rosario and his men apprehended illegal forest products. He recalled that even in his other assignments in the past they apprehended suspected illegal loggers or assisted the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in running after them.As a result of their past actions, Del Rosario and the 1003rd Brigade were awarded a Certificate of Commendation by Department of Environment and Natural Resources Southern Mindanao Regional Executive Director Jim O. …
