THE wife of a farmer who suffered horrific head injuries when he was assaulted outside his home has appealed for help in her bid to solve the mystery of what happened to him.

Sandy Ingram is confined to a hospital bed, unable to move or speak after the attack.

The 79-year-old now struggles to communicate with his wife, Ann, by means of gestures and noises.

He is the only person who knows what happened in the moments before he was discovered lying in a pool of blood outside his farmhouse after he failed to return from confronting intruders.

A police investigation has stalled and Mrs Ingram, 63, is desperate for the answers her husband cannot give her. She said: 'I want to be able to tell Sandy I know what happened because I think that's what he is straining so hard to tell me - and his inability to do so is frustrating him so much.' Mr Ingram was found lying unconscious by his wife at Elrick House near Newmachar, Aberdeenshire, on June 19.

His family believe he was assaulted but a lack of evidence has left police unable to rule out the possibility that he fell. …
