MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno S. Aquino III is leaving for a five-day visit to Vietnam on October 26-30 to seek broader agreements on trade and investments and enhance bilateral cooperation and partnership in development with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Philippines and Vietnam are members of the ASEAN, along with Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, and Singapore.
On October 26-27, the President will make a State Visit to Vietnam, after which, on October 28-30, he will attend the ASEAN Summit, the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Dialogue Partners Meeting, the East Asia Summit, and the ASEAN Ministerial Meetings. The trip to Vietnam is President Aquino's second official travel abroad. His first was on September 20, 2010, when he addressed the 65th United Nations General Assembly and serve as coordinator for the 2nd ASEAN-United States Meeting in New York City.
In his State Visit to Vietnam, President Aquino will meet with Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and General Secretary Nong Duc Manh of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. …
