MANILA, Philippines - Government workers should spend their Christmas bonuses wisely amid the administration's plan to distribute additional P10,000 performance bonus starting Dec. 15, a Palace official said Sunday.Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte urged state employees to control their holiday spending and save some funds for the "rainy days.""To those who are receiving their bonuses, let's spend wisely. We understand that Christmas is fast approaching, but let's not forget we have other expenses after celebrating Christmas," Valte said in Filipino over state-run Radyo ng Bayan.President Aquino has signed Administrative Order (AO) No. 3 authorizing the grant of productivity enhancement incentive (PEI) to government employees in the executive branch.Under the AO 3 issued last Nov. 25, the President stated that P7,000 will be sourced from savings of the 2010 budget, while the remaining P3,000 will be taken from the savings in the agency of each employee.The performance bonus is on top of the annual 13th month pay and P5,000 cash gift that were given to state workers since last Nov. 15.The government was able to provide for the performance bonus for its workforce due to its prudent spending this year, according to the President.He cited the contribution of the government workers to improving the domestic economy, restoring investors' confidence in the government, and implementing programs on job generation and social services under a platform of "good governance. …
